• What types of foods should I eat while participating at Spartan boot camp?
It depends. For non-diabetics, an hour-an hour and a half before exercise one should have a banana. Right after, chocolate milk is best (provided you’re not lactose intolerant). If fat loss is your primary goal, try working the following foods into your diet in their RAW form (important!)

      Veggies:

           • Broccoli, carrots, lettuce, onion, spinach, asparagus, garlic, celery, zucchini, beets, cabbage, turnips, cauliflower, cucumbers, chicory, endive, chili peppers

      Fruits:

           • Oranges, apples, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, grapefruit, lemon, papaya, mango, pineapple, tangerines. These foods are high in cellulose and are very energy-taxing (calorie burning!) for your body to digest. Eat lots of grilled chicken and fish, eat smaller portions, try drinking a full glass of water before meals, control your portions, avoid chips and other “brainless snack foods,” substitute habitual snacks with healthier ones, and drink plenty of green tea.

  • I want to lose fat- shouldn’t I just do cardio?
First off, see above- fat loss is 90% diet. Second, cardio machines are for hamsters. I have never met someone who honestly enjoys running on a treadmill, spinning in place on an elliptical, or clutching the stair monster with white knuckles while silently uttering a prayer to hasten the sluggish pace of the timer. …Not that that’s ever been me or anything! Studies have shown (see the King et. al. 2001 study on HIIT) that high intensity interval training; the very type we engage in at Spartan Boot Camp, is superior to steady state cardio training (what you do when you do “cardio”) in terms of burning fat, speeding up the metabolism, increasing VO2 max, building lean body mass, and decreasing fat mass. Put simply, our way is just better.

  • WHERE and when IS Spartan BOOT CAMP HELD?
Spartan Boot Camp runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 8am in the Arcadia area. Times do fluctuate sometimes, so to reserve your spot email me now and we’ll get you going!

  • I have an injury- can I still do boot camp?
It depends. Most old injuries can be accommodated for by assigning alternate or specialized exercises, but you should always consult your doctor prior to beginning any physical activity program. If you have any current injuries or medical conditions, please contact me prior to beginning the program.

  • I don’t want to bulk up, and I heard there are weights at Spartan boot camp. Should this be a concern for me?
No. Men and women training at Spartan Boot Camps can put on a bit of muscle, especially if you are not used to exercise. But small gains in muscle mass are common when increasing physical activity with any exercise program, as your body adapts to its environment to protect itself. The best way to “bulk” is with machines; I can assure you there are no machines here! Our workouts are designed to burn the most amount of calories possible and develop total body/core strength. Strength and bulk are not directly correlated, otherwise body builders would be in the Olympics for weight lifting. These ultra-high calorie burning workouts are a ton of fun, challenging, and are designed to “tone,” not to bulk.
Spartan Boot Camps are held in the Biltmore area of Phoenix. For details call
